MEET JIM

Jim Harrison has been a strong, independent voice for positive change in Richland County and South Carolina for nearly two decades. Re-elected unanimously by both Democrats and Republicans as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jim has made property tax relief and fighting for the rights of victims two of his top legislative priorities – with tremendous success.

In 2006, Jim’s leadership helped secure passage of the Property Tax Relief Act as well as tougher penalties for criminal domestic violence and “Jessica’s Law,” which makes it easier to prosecute and convict sex offenders. He also led the fight to protect private property rights and strengthen incentives for companies looking to do business in South Carolina.

Jim has also consistently supported increased funding for public education, including raising teacher pay in South Carolina to $600 above the Southeastern average.

But Jim’s record is about more than just legislative accomplishments. It’s about duty to country as well.

A Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, Jim was recently awarded the Legion of Merit by the Secretary of the Army. In his three decades of military service, Jim has seen active duty five times in U.S Military operations in Haiti, Bosnia and Iraq, where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
